It is hard to believe, but the summer is ending already. School is back in session. Companies are knee deep into 2007 planning. It is budget season. Everyone is busy.
It is a busy time for AITP as well. We just completed the election for the 2007 Association Board of Directors. The Board is developing its 2007 Plan of Work. The Finance Committee is developing the 2007 budget. Many professional chapters are coming off their summer break. Student Chapters are ramping up for the school year and we have a promotion program to help them.
Association Elections The election for AITP District Directors and Association Officers ended August 21. For the first time in many years, we had several people compete for the same positions on the Board. This competition is healthy for the association. It shows an ever increasing interest in members wanting to step up to leadership positions and help shape the future of AITP. We thank all the candidates for their dedication, time, energy and expertise.
Your 2007 AITP Board of Directors will be: Association President: Teresa Hickerson Association Executive Vice-President / President Elect: Mark Kleine Association Secretary Treasurer: Deborah Lovell Association Immediate Past President: Mark Gilfand Eastern District Director: Darlene Gerber Eastern District Director: Allan Kotmel Central District Director: Bob Grenier Central District Director: Michael Welch Southern District Director: Cindy Niemeyer Southern District Director: David Stovall Western District Director: Beth Pirrie Western District Director: Diana Shelton
Student Chapter Promotion AITP is proud to announce the Rock into the Fall Semester with aITp Student Chapter Promotion Campaign. During the months of August and September, 2006, existing student chapters can participate in a competition to see who can get the most new and renewing student members. The winning chapters will receive cash prizes to help support their efforts during the upcoming school year!
New student chapters formed during this time will also have a chance to participate and win cash prizes. Student chapters that have turned in their new student officers list to AITP Headquarters and the AITP Student Awards Chair by September 30, 2006 will be eligible to receive the prize money.
Details about this promotion have been sent to students and the professional chapter leaders. They can also be found on the AITP Promotion page. Click on the links for the Student Membership Flyer, Student Membership Handout and Student Membership Poster. There is a student brochure on the Promotion page as well.
IT students are the IT professionals and the AITP members of tomorrow. Let's support these student chapters and help grow our profession. Professional Chapter leaders, please contact your student leaders. Make sure they know about the promotion. Help them ensure that a list of their chapter leaders is sent to headquarters.
Chapter Leader Notification There are many ways a chapter can be improve its overall health. But one of the first things that both professional and student chapters can do is to ensure that their chapter leaders are known by AITP and are noted on the chapter's page on the AITP portal. The people who are noted on the chapter's page at the web portal will receive regular communications from AITP. They will learn about new benefits and offerings to both chapters and members. They will be notified when new people join their chapter.
Letting AITP know of the correct chapter leaders is simple. Just go to your chapter's page on the AITP portal at www.aitp.org/mychapter. See which leaders are noted, if any. Send corrections to AITP Headquarters. Provide the name and number of the chapter. Then list the people who should be shown as chapter leaders, providing headquarters with each person's name, their position in the chapter, and their membership number (preferred) or email address.
Please make sure that the Student Chapter Advisor is included in the list of student chapter leaders. It is the advisor who is there, year after year, and who helps organize the student chapters. We need to ensure that the advisor is getting regular communications from AITP. If the advisor doesn't hear from AITP, the advisor won't be out there getting and motivating student members. Let's improve the health of our student chapters by ensuring the student chapter advisor is kept in the loop by being shown as one of the student chapter leaders.
Region Officers...you can help as well by checking the Chapters Without Leaders report on your region page at the AITP portal. Contact the chapters without leaders. Help them get their leaders known to AITP.
Free Members There is an often untapped source for new professional and student chapter members. Sometimes people join AITP without realizing there is a chapter near them. They join as an Individual Member at Large or as an Individual Member of a Region. Region Leaders can help their chapters by regularly reviewing the Individual Member Rosters. These reports can be found on their Region page at the AITP portal. Please notify your chapters, both student and professional, of individual members near them. AITP headquarters regularly reviews the Individual Members at Large roster and reassigns those members to the proper region. This is a great way to help your professional and student chapters grow, while allowing people to get the most out of their AITP membership.
