Email Addresses, IT Jobs, AITP Elections, and Interim Member Program

Keep Your Email Address Current
As we head into the summer months, many AITP chapters take a short break in their meeting schedule to accommodate member vacations. However, AITP members will continue to receive emails throughout the summer about important member benefits. This includes Information Executive, announcements of new member benefits, renewal notices, and the opportunity to vote for the next year's association leaders. Also, chapters and regions will send emails to members about local events and news.

Unfortunately, about 10% of our members will not receive these emails. That is because we do not have an email address for them or their email address is invalid.

Members may have changed email addresses but may not have updated their AITP records. Students may change their email address for the summer. Graduating students may take on a new email address once they leave school. These members will not hear about new member benefits and opportunities. They will not be notified of chapter and region events. They will not get emailed renewal notices. And, experience tells us that members who do not hear from AITP are likely to leave our association.

This summer break is an excellent time to ensure that AITP has your correct email and regular mail address.

Chapter leaders, please use this break time to review the rosters of your members. Check them against your own lists, if you have them, and follow up with those members who have different addresses. Check the report of members without email addresses. Follow up with those members and get valid email addresses for them. This will help ensure that members receive your messages and will improve your chapter's retention rate.

Getting the right contact information is a win-win for Members, Chapters, Regions and the Association. It helps to ensure that you get the most out of your AITP membership.


Jobs, Jobs, Jobs
Over the past couple of months, there have been a number of postings in the AITP forum from employers about job openings and from those who are looking for new opportunities within the IT industry. Whether you are an employer looking for excellent IT candidates, a graduating student eager to begin your IT career, or an existing IT professional ready to take on new challenges, check out the postings at the AITP 'Jobs, Jobs', Jobs' forum. 

While you are at the AITP web portal, be sure to check out the Robert Half Technology Information Research Center for excellent resources on how to hire and be hired. You also have the opportunity to search through Robert Half Technology's job library .


Association Elections
Recently, all member received an email about the opportunities to expand your professional horizons by becoming a member of the Association Board of Directors or serving as an Association officer. This summer, we will elect District Directors from each of our four districts, who will serve on the Association Board of Directors in 2007 and 2008. We will also elect a Secretary-Treasurer and Executive Vice-President/President Elect for 2007.

To take advantage of this opportunity please contact your District Nominating chair no later than June 20, 2006 and submit the AITP Nominating Committee Candidate form to AITP headquarters no later than July 1, 2006.

Interim Member Program for Graduating Students
AITP student members know the value of AITP. And when they move into the IT workplace, AITP membership is just as valuable. AITP membership provides new IT professionals with the opportunity to network with those already in the industry; allow them to stand out from the crowd and be recognized; and show that they are committed to keeping up with new developments in the industry -- a quality that all employers look for.

We realize that those just starting in the industry have limited resources to pay for AITP dues. To help AITP student members continue their AITP affiliation as they transition into the IT workplace, AITP created the Interim Member Program. It allows student members to become professional members using a sliding dues schedule. The first year's association dues are the same as student dues - $35. In the second year, association dues are just $45. And the third year, the dues are just $70.

Recent graduating AITP student members can take advantage of the Interim Member Program by renewing their AITP membership as an Interim Member.
