Spring is fast approaching and for AITP that means lots of activity. Chapters are wrapping up their spring meeting preparations and finalizing their fall meeting plans. Committees are forming across the country. Conferences are underway. Students are getting ready for finals, with the graduates getting ready to take their place among the professional ranks.
National Collegiate Conference
The 11th annual National Collegiate Conference (NCC) is coming up fast. It will be held at the Adam's Mark Hotel in Dallas, Texas, March 30 - April 1, 2006. It is hosted by the Dallas AITP Professional Chapter & Midwestern State University AITP Student Chapter. This year's NCC is shaping up to be an exciting event. See the NCC web site at www.aitp.org/ncc.
The National Collegiate Conference it is an amazing event. NCC is part educational conference, part job fair, and part competition. It is an opportunity for both IT professionals and IT students.
The educational conference offers quality presentations by top IT leaders. It is a multi-track educational opportunity, with tracks like Executive/CIO, Infrastructure, Technical, Professional Development, Student Development and Faculty. The educational part of the conference is geared toward the IT Professional as well as the student, providing quality educational sessions at a very reasonable price Check out the detailed Event Schedule at the NCC web site.
The competition part of NCC is a sight to behold. Students work day and night to compete for prizes and national recognition in events like Web Design, Cobol, JAVA, Network Design, Systems Analysis & Design, Database Design, Visual Studio.Net, PC Troubleshooting, Graduate and Undergraduate papers, etc. There are even contests for best student chapter website and student chapter banner. These students vie for the opportunity to show potential employers that they can compete well in a national competition.
The job fair is a unique opportunity for both employers and students. Employers can seek out the best and brightest students from around the country. Here they can meet the students and conduct interviews, and do so without having to travel all across the country. It is a win-win situation, allowing employers and the students to get together and create opportunities for both.
NCC is a way for employers and vendors to get exposure and create awareness of their organization to both current IT professionals, upcoming IT professionals and IT faculty. There are exhibiter packages still available to companies who want take advantage of this great opportunity.
Whether you are an employer, an IT professional, an IT student, a IT faculty member or an IT vendor, there are opportunities to be found at NCC. Check it out at www.aitp.org/ncc.
Jobs, Jobs, Jobs
In last month's article, I discussed the opportunities available to AITP members at the AITP discussion forums. I'm glad to see that more members have taken advantage of that opportunity. It is particularly interesting that to see the growth in the forum about jobs. There are postings in our 'Jobs, Jobs, Jobs' forum by both employers and potential employees. Whether you are looking to hire or looking to be hired, check out the AITP discussion forums in the 'Members' section of the AITP Web Portal.
And while you there, be sure to visit the InfoCenter by Robert Half Technology in the 'Members' section of the AITP portal. Here you will find great information about how to be hired and how to hire. You will have access to Robert Half Technology's vast job library. Check out these opportunities at the AITP web portal.
Update your Contact Information
AITP is constantly adding new benefits for its members, as more and more vendors seek out AITP to reach IT professionals. We will continue to let you know about these new benefits. But we can't do that unless we have your most current contact information. Make sure you are notified of these new benefit programs, by double checking the email address that AITP has on file for you.
Association and Local Committees
Last month, all members received a memo from AITP offering them the opportunity to become a part of many initiatives, through membership in AITP association committees and task forces. We are pleased that many of our members have expressed an interest. There are still openings available on these committees. The more members who volunteer, the more programs we can offer our members.
Click Here to review the association-wide committees and task forces. See where you can network with fellow IT professionals, learn from them, and grow both professionally and personally. Send an email to AITP Headquarters. Let them know what committees and task forces you would like to participate in. You can also volunteer to help the committees within your chapter or region. Taking advantage of these opportunities of AITP membership will be an investment in both your future and AITP's future.
