Welcome to a new year with AITP. It is a year full of plans, expectations, and enthusiasm. It is also a year full of opportunities for all our members. AITP is all about opportunities -- in education, leadership, networking and advocacy. There are many educational opportunities for members, from local chapter meetings and regional conferences, to discounts on books, research, conferences, and so much more.
Benefits of Membership

Members will be prompted to log onto the AITP web portal to view the details of these discount programs. If you do not recall your login information, simply click on the 'Forget username and password?' link when you are prompted to log in.
Update your Contact Information
There are many other discount programs on the drawing board. We'll be sure to notify all members as these programs are finalized. To make sure you are notified of these new programs, please double check the email address that AITP has on file for you. That can be done by logging onto the AITP web portal, going to the 'Members' section, and clicking on 'My Account'. Or you can contact chapter leaders or AITP headquarters.
National Collegiate Conference
AITP firmly believes that students are the future in IT. And there is a great opportunity for students, faculty and even professional members. The annual National Collegiate Conference (NCC) is right around the corner, March 30 - April 1, 2006 in Dallas, Texas. This year's conference is shaping up to be one of the best ever. This is a unique opportunity for students and employers alike. Check out the details at www.aitp.org/ncc. We'll be back in Dallas, November 2-5, 2006 for the Information Systems Education Conference (ISECON).
Student Membership Promotion
There is another opportunity for students right now. Students who join AITP or renew their student membership in January or February, 2006 receive a $10 discount on their dues. And there will be drawing for PDA's at the end of the campaign for new and renewing student members.
Networking
Networking is one of the cornerstones of AITP membership. Local chapter meetings are a great way network, cement existing relationships and build new ones. There are also opportunities to network virtually, through AITP committees and task forces. The AITP board of directors is now reviewing the 2006 plan of work, including the list of committees and task forces. As soon as that is finalized, members will be sent an email with a list of the 'national' committees and task forces. I hope that you will take advantage of the opportunity to reach out, use your skills, expand your horizons, and participate in these virtual groups.
Executive Director Appointed
I am pleased to announce that AITP appointed Eric Hawkinson as our new Executive Director. Eric joined us last summer and has proven to be a great benefit to the association -- managing our headquarters operation, promoting AITP, and reaching out to members, chapters, regions, committees, vendors and other associations. We thank Jim Luisi for filling in as our interim Executive Director during much of 2005.
Here's to 2006
2006 will be a year of opportunity for professional and student members, chapter, regions, and AITP as whole. There are many national committees working to create new benefits and programs. Regions are working hard with assisting their chapters. And chapters need your help in order to bring you quality face-to-face educational programs. Please consider participating in some of your chapter committees. I'm sure that you will find that the pay-back from participating at the local, regional, or national level is well worth your time. It is your opportunity to reach out, lend your talents, improve your standing in the IT community and learn from IT professionals.
