My fellow members,

AITP is alive and well!

Our membership numbers are still positive and we hope to do even better before year's end.Our membership committee is concentrating on efforts to strengthen renewal efforts, and we already see improvement.

Student membership has not yet metexpectations, but our promotion campaign got underway in August so hopefully we'll get some good results. The marketing committee expects we will do as well as we did with the campaign for new professional members a few months ago.

Our portal committee continues to make outstanding improvements. Our first attempt at electronic voting is doing well. If you haven't cast your ballot as yet, you must try it. It is a wonderful new tool!

New meaningful member benefits are still being screened to meet our criteria. We could use some help to process the many partners and affiliates who awaitnegotiations and ourimpending decision.

We endorsed and are participating in an effort to encourage certification as a means for employers to identify professionals with the experience and skills certification implies. Our leadership role in the Institute for Certification of Computer Professionals is strong and should be. After all,AITP gave birth to the first certificate in the 1950s and unselfishly passed the program on to help give certification wider acceptance from our peer societies.

Our awards program has been improved and most of the processing has been done by our committee. This effort helps our financial picture by lessening dependence on HQ staff.

Congratulations to regions and chapters who have been more active in providing services to members, which in turn helps our membership growth. Your support helped the AITP board of directors in its efforts to return AITP to its place as theassociation of choice for all IT and IT-related professionals.

I would like to extend special recognition to the folks in Mississippi. An example of AITP's resurgence is that two new chapters are being formed in Mississippi! This could triple the state's member count. A dinner rally is planned for folks all over the state with 500 guests already signed up to attend. Their committee has shown innovation and enthusiasm with sponsors, who are helping to offset a great portion of the expenses. Yournational officers will beguests of honor - and an honor it will be! They chose the theme: the Hawaiian luau, and fresh flower and shell leis will greet attendees and a Hawaiian troupe will provide entertainment. This is a class act.

I sincerely hope everyone appreciates the strong efforts from the members of the board of directors. They - along with all their committees and with the assistance of chapter and region leaders - make us proud to be members of AITP. This has always been our goal, to deserve our members' faith and trust.

Thank you!
