Dallas Chapter’s May Program a Tremendous Success!

With an overwhelming attendance of 104 people consisting of student, professional chapter members and guests from the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, the 2nd Annual Dallas Chapter Personal & Professional Development Program was an incredible success! Originally aimed primarily at graduating or soon to be graduating students, the May event offered expert advice for every professional from polishing people skills, dressing for success, managing your career, landing a great job to securing a promotion.

Our Vice President, Deborah Lovell, primary coordinator of this event, lined up an international cast for this year's topic: Business Protocol and Reinventing Yourself. Mr. Andy Howard, Vice President of Sales and Marketing - Enterprise Channels with Nortel Networks, presented an overview of the recent downturn in the IT Industry and its expected upswing. Matt Adams, VP and COO of Insala Group, shared his industry expertise in career management: pathing and transitioning yourself in a career. Ms. Donna Ketter-Savage, a consultant with Character of Excellence, empowered the attendees with advice on how attire and personal behavior make a profound difference in business. Our special Guest Speaker for the evening was Joe Malarkey, The Worst Motivational Speaker in America. For those of you who have never seen him, Joe is a motivational speaker unlike any other whose side-splittingly funny program "Choose to Lose" is a memorable message of facing and overcoming fear in our lives and careers.

This special afternoon event began last year, when graduating students from Tareleton State University came out to Dallas to visit the Burlington Railroad. The student chapter asked our Deborah if she could fill a few hours of time for the visiting students before the regular evening program. She "filled" the time with an amazing array of speakers and topics including resume and career placement advice from Career Connections, personal & health care by Mary Kay Cosmetics, tips on professional clothing attire from Nordstrom's, and a presentation from Nick Natour, owner of The Enclave in Dallas, who offered advice on dining etiquette.

Deborah is already hard at work on next year's program, so if you are planning to be in Dallas next May, look us up!
