Barbara Russell, Northwestern State University of Natchitoches, Louisiana was named as the winner of the 2001-2002 Outstanding Faculty Advisor of the Year Award. Mrs. Russell was more than surprised when her name was called out as the winner at the 8th Annual AITP Collegiate Conference Awards Banquet. Her students had kept it a secret that they had nominated her for the award. Mrs. Russell is currently the faculty advisor at Northwestern State University. She has also served as the faculty advisor at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas.
Mrs. Russell has been involved with AITP as a faculty advisor for many years. She has been involved in all levels of student conferences from the Tarleton State Programming Contest, to the Region 3 Student Conference to the National Student Conference. Mrs. Russell has written problem statements and judged at both the region and the national level. She has been the COBOL Coordinator or has written the COBOL problem statement nearly every year at the National Conference.
Mrs. Russell's students always perform well in the programming contests. Many walk away as winners in their respective competitions.
Currently, Mrs. Russell is the chair for the Region 3 Student Conference to be held next October at Northwestern State University.
