The funds are earmarked for the Sherry Anklam Memorial Award (SAMA), established by the NEW AITP Chapter several years ago. The SAMA provides scholarships to deserving students who are active members of the AITP Student Chapters sponsored by the NEW AITP Chapter.
The award is named in honor of Sherry Anklam, a Past President of the NEW chapter, who succumbed to cancer at the age of 44. Sherry was instrumental in developing the student chapter scholarship program as well as establishing "100% Attendance" night for the Chapter.
The scholarship fund that bears Sherry's name is administered by the Foundation for Information Technology Education for investment purposes. Donations to the fund by companies and individuals are tax deductible under current laws. The NEW Chapter processes scholarship applications and makes decisions on the awards.
The Scholarship funds are raised primarily through the annual NEW AITP Golf Outing, which typically draws more than 150 golfers and Event Sponsors each year. The 2012 NEW AITP Golf Outing is scheduled for Wednesday, July 18th. Please visit our Website for more information – new.aitp.org.
