The AITP Pittsburgh Chapter is celebrating 60 years! And that milestone received the attention of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
The article recaps what "Data Processing” was like when the chapter started in 1952 and describes the current state of the industry in the Pittsburgh area. It notes that the Pittsburgh Chapter membership peaked in the 1970s and 1980s. Membership has since dropped. The chapter even briefly discussed suspending operations. But the chapter leadership, headed by President Stan Hoffman, was dedicated to keep it going to provide educational opportunities for its members and others interested in technology. And their work paid off. Pittsburgh was named the Association Outstanding Chapter in 2008.
The article recaps the Pittsburgh chapter's mentorship for other chapters in Region 18, including its efforts to start the Johnstown chapter several years ago.
This Wednesday, the chapter will celebrate their accomplishments at their 60th anniversary event.
