From the Association President's Desk

Happy summer! I don't know where the first half of this year has gone. Some of our chapters will go dark for the summer, but most will have regular monthly programs and summer social events. Many of our larger chapters have plans for mixers, picnics or outings. Enjoy! It's part of our mantra to "Have Fun!”

Before thoughts shift to vacations, I want to congratulate the chapters that have received the Region Outstanding Chapter Award (ROCA) for 2011:

Region 1 - San Diego

Region 2 - Puget Sound

Region 3 - Austin

Region 4 - Mile High (Denver)

Region 5 - Twin City (Bloomington/Normal, IL)

Region 7 - Atlanta

Region 13 - Long Island

Region 18 - Research Triangle Park

They are now in the running for the 2011 Association Outstanding Chapter Award (AOCA), which we will present at the Annual Meeting of the Members in October. Three of our 2011 ROCA winners have won AOCA in past years: San Diego (2009), Twin City (1999, 2001, 2010), and Long Island (2006).

I also want to call your attention to the upcoming elections for Association Officers and Directors, which were announced in Information Executive last month (see http://www.aitp.org/news/news.asp?id=92811). We are looking for candidates to serve as 2013 Association Executive Vice President/President-Elect, Association Secretary and Association Treasurer, as well as four Association Directors for two-year terms beginning in January 2013.

This is the time to stand up and make a difference in your Association. If you are thinking about standing for election but are unsure, please contact me at President@aitp.org to discuss any reservations or concerns you may have. The deadline for candidate applications is 4:00 PM CDT on June 30th. You can find candidate and election information at http://www.aitp.org/?page=ARC. We will have our annual "Meet the Candidates” Virtual Water Cooler on Tuesday, August 28th. Details will be posted on aitp.org.
