I am pleased to announce that the Association Board of Directors (ABoD) has honored longtime member William F. Howell by naming the cup presented to Association Outstanding Chapter Award (AOCA) recipients for him.
Bill observed his 60th anniversary as an NMAA/DPMA/AITP member on April 16, 2012. No other member has ever achieved this milestone. Unfortunately, as we reported in Information Executive (http://www.aitp.org/news/90628/), Bill passed away two days later.
His 60 years as a member, volunteer and leader contributed to the lives and professional growth of thousands who today are part of his legacy. I wanted to do something for Bill that perpetuates his name in AITP and memorializes his contributions to our Association and the IT profession. The ABoD concurred at its June 27th meeting and approved my request to name the William F. Howell Cup.
When I told his daughter, Catherine Howell, about the William F. Howell Cup, she wrote to me: "I know I speak for all of my sisters in expressing our appreciation of this honor on my father's behalf. He cherished his professional and personal relationships with the members of the NMAA, DPMA, and AITP over his many years of service … I know that he would have been both overwhelmed and deeply touched by this honor.”
We will present the first Howell Cup to the 2011 AOCA winner at the Annual Membership Meeting in Green Bay, WI on October 10, 2012.
