The Association By-Laws provides limited information on the role of the Immediate Past President. Fundamentally, the Immediate Past President is "the person who served the prior term as President” (Article VIII Section 6.01). The Immediate Past President is an Officer of the Association (Article VIII Section 1.01) and a member of the Association Board of Directors (Article V Section 2.01), as well as a member of the Executive Committee (Article V Section 2.02). But, primarily the Immediate Past President role is limited to performing "such duties and provide such advice as from time to time is requested by the President or Board of Directors” (Article VIII Section 6.02).

Well that's a lot of formal language that doesn't provide much of an answer … or guidance. We've had some Immediate Past Presidents who essentially slipped into retirement. Others have remained quite active during their year serving as an ambassador for the Association and taking on significant assignments such as Chairing the Association Directors & Officers Recruitment Committee (ARC) – the group responsible for identifying and vetting candidates for Association Officer and Director positions.

I see myself as "Chief Advisor” to the Association President, Executive Committee and Association Directors, representing the continuity of Association Presidents going back to our first Association President in 1952, Robert L. Jenal. As "senior statesman”, I am also an ambassador for the Association internally to members and Chapters, as well as externally to other organizations as requested by Bill Fly, 2013 Association President. And, yes, you may have read on Information Executive that I am chairing the ARC this year, and I am working on updating our Association Policies and Procedures.

We need active AITP leaders in each District to volunteer to serve on the DRCs. The Chair of each DRC is automatically a member of the ARC. If you are a current Professional member, have been a Chapter or Region leader, and are interested in making a difference in AITP, please contact me at PastPresident@aitp.org, and I’ll let your Region President know that you would like to represent your Region and be part of this auspicious process!

As a member of a DRC or the ARC, you are making a difference for the future of AITP and its leadership! Two $2,500 scholarships were awarded by our Diamond Sponsor Robert Half Technology. The 2012 Distinguished Information Systems Award was awarded to Dr. Joyce Currie Little, Professor Emerita, Towson University, and longtime member of the Baltimore Chapter and EDSIG. The Association, the Foundation for Information Technology Education (FITE) and the Region 5 Boards of Directors met in-person. Outstanding Student Chapter of the Year went to James Madison University. Dr. S. E. Kruck of James Madison University was recognized as the Faculty Advisor of the Year. Irene Edge of Kent State – Ashtabula was awarded the Faculty Advisor Extra Mile Award.

Thanks go to NCC Director Kevin Jetton and his NCC Committee of volunteers, including the FITE Board of Directors for a great conference. Also, we appreciate the many volunteers that pitched in and especially our sponsors, exhibitors, and speakers. AITP Professional Chapters and Region whose annual gross receipts are normally $50,000 or less are required to electronically submit Form 990-N, also known as the e-Postcard, unless they choose to file a complete Form 990 or Form 990-EZ instead. Professional Chapters and Regions with gross receipts over $50,000 must file the appropriate tax forms (see below).

Chapters/Regions will lose their tax exempt status if they do not file tax returns

If you do not file your e-Postcard on time, the IRS will send you a reminder notice. There is no penalty assessment for late filing the e-Postcard, but an organization that fails to file required e-Postcards (or information returns – Forms 990 or 990-EZ) for three consecutive years will automatically lose its tax-exempt status. The revocation of the organization's tax-exempt status will not take place until the filing due date of the third year.

Due Date of the e-Postcard

The e-Postcard is due every year by the 15th day of the 5th month after the close of your tax year. Since all AITP chapters' tax year ended on December 31,tax filings are due May 15. If the due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the due date is the next business day. You cannot file the e-Postcard until after your tax year ends.

How to File

When you access the system, you will leave the IRS site and file the e-Postcard with the IRS through their trusted partner, Urban Institute. The form must be completed and filed electronically.

Information You Will Need To File the e-Postcard

The e-Postcard is easy to complete. All you need is eight items of basic information about your organization.

One of those pieces of information is your chapter's/region's EIN (Employer Identification Number), also known as TIN (Tax Identification Number). Most chapters and regions acquired an EIN by filing a Form SS-4 prior to requesting tax-exemption.

If you do not know your EIN, you may be able to find it on your chapter's/region's bank statement. If you still cannot find your EIN you can ask the IRS to search for it by calling the Business & Specialty Tax Line at (800) 829-4933. Click here for more details.

Another way to find your EIN is to look up previous e-postcards from your chapter:

1. Go to: Exempt Organizations Select Check.
2. Click on the ”Exempt Organizations Select Check Tool”.
3. Click the button for "Have Filed Form 990-N (e-Postcard)”
4. Search for your chapter. E.g. Fill in "AITP” in the name field and fill in your chapter’s city and state.
5. Click on Search.

Who Must File

All AITP Professional Chapter and Regions must file tax returns. AITP does not file a group tax return which means that each chapter and region is individually responsible for filing their own tax returns.

Professional Chapters and Regions with gross receipts that are normally $50,000 or less must file the e-Postcard.

Chapters or Regions with $50,000 or more in gross revenue will still need to file the appropriate tax forms. (See IRS instructions for Form 990: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i990.pdf).

Student chapters should work with their school to determine what tax filing rules apply to them.

The Association Board of Directors provides active chapters and regions with some form of financial recognition / support for their activities. The primary qualification for this added support is certifying that the chapter or region is active and functioning. These support processes are called the Professional Chapter Incentive program and the Region Funding program. Chapters and Regions must apply for this support each year.

Funding submissions will be reviewed for accuracy by the Professional Awards Committee then passed to the Association Treasurer for approval and payment.

We have four primary Service Areas, each headed by two Directors: Association Development, Chapter and Region Support, Membership, and Operations. Each Service Area has four to five committees or task forces. In most of those service areas, Directors have to serve on several committees, or worse, chair them. My point is that we need more association committee members and chairpersons. We have several committees that have no chairperson or members, so the work either doesn't get done or a Director has to see it gets done.

To paraphrase a great President, whose life was abbreviated, "Ask not what your association can do for you, but what you can do for your association”. With more volunteers, more work can get done, more people can spend a reasonable amount of time doing association work, and both the association and the members are better off.

Please, review the association organization chart at http://www.aitp.org/resource/resmgr/abod_documents/aitp_2013_organization_char.xlsx and volunteer for a committee. Once you find a committee that you’re interested in, send an email to volunteers@aitp.org or vicepresident@aitp.org. Either email address will get your name to the appropriate person.

In less than four weeks, our biggest activity of the year will be over, the National Collegiate Conference in St. Louis, April 4 – 6. About six hundred student members and a couple hundred professionals, including both the AITP and Foundation for Information Technology Education (FITE) Boards of Directors, will have experienced a fatiguing, but very rewarding three days.

If you are a student member, you are really missing out on a fantastic opportunity to meet with companies looking for the IT leaders of tomorrow and compete in contests to see how you match up to other IT student members from all across the country. If you’re a professional member and have not attended an NCC, you are really missing out on a tremendous experience. This will be my ninth consecutive, and not last, NCC. This is the single activity which keeps me active with the association in a leadership role. These (mostly) young people, the students, are an inspiring motivation to me, each time I attend.

Make your plans to attend now. It will be worth it. I hope to see you there.

The Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) Professional Awards Committee would like to congratulate the following members who were awarded/approved for the Lifetime Individual Performance Award. They have joined past recipients who were recognized for their contributions to their Chapters, Regions and the Association.

IPA Lifetime Award-800 points

Irene Edge – Northeastern Ohio Chapter – Region 18 – Irene teaches at the Ashtabula Campus of Kent State University. She is an advisor of the Kent State Ashtabula Student Chapter which is noted for many years of competition at NCC during which they brought home many awards.

Darlene Gerber – Northeastern Ohio Chapter – Region 18 – Darlene has served the Association at the Chapter, Region and Association level as an Officer, as well as chairing many committees. She is also well known for her love for Ohio State University as well as AITP.

David Chapin – Puget Sound Chapter – Region 2 – Dave has been involved in several chapters in the Northwestern part of the country. When the Chair of the 2011 Region 2 Conference was unable to continue, Dave stepped up to help make the event a success. Most recently, Dave wrote an article published on the Association website aimed at helping chapters recruit new members.

Mary Reager – Cornhusker Chapter – Region 4 – Mary is an extremely active member of the Cornhusker Chapter and a past Association Director. She chairs many committees and attends as many Association activities as possible where she helps out wherever she is needed.

The Individual Performance Award (IPA) for AITP members was designed to reward active members. The IPA is based on a point evaluation for various activities performed for the local Chapter, the Region and the Association, the Local and Business Communities as well as supporting the Student Chapter Community. Individuals are recognized for those contributions which advance the goals of the Association, assist the efforts of fellow members and promote the development of members' professional status.

The IPA award recognizes individual merits and recipients continue to serve and achieve in the years to come. The levels of IPA and the points required are as follows:

I am pleased to announce that the Association Board of Directors (ABoD) has approved the selection of Joyce Currie Little, Ph.D. CCP as the recipient of the 2012 Distinguished Information Sciences Award (DISA). Association President Bill Fly and I will present the DISA to Dr. Little at the Saturday, April 6th luncheon during the National Computing Conference (NCC) in St. Louis.

Dr. Little is Professor Emerita, Computer and Information Sciences at Towson University in Towson, Maryland. She has been an educator for over fifty years, focusing on software engineering, systems analysis and design, and societal and ethical issues of technology. She is a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Dr. Little has served the Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals (ICCP) for decades as a Director and President, and was on the Washington DC-based Commission for Professionals in Science and Technology, representing the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). She received the ACM SIGCSE Lifetime Service to the Computer Science Education Community in 2006 and was named an EDSIG Fellow in 2011.  See even more biographical information below.

I first met Dr. Little when I participated on her international working group in Kracow, Poland that resulted in the seminal publication "Integrating professionalism and workplace issues into the computing and information technology curriculum” SIGCSE Bulletin 31(4):106-120 (December 1999). Many of the concepts presented in this paper helped form the foundation of AITP's definition of a "business IT professional” in 2008.

When we informed Dr. Little of her award, she exclaimed: "This is such an honor, far beyond anything I've ever been given before, though I am ‘fellow' of several organizations, including the ACM. This one is the greatest!” She went on to say: "I am indeed honored to be selected for the DISA, and even more so as it came during your Presidency when Bill [Fly] was your EVP.”

DISA is AITP's highest award bestowed upon individuals who have made outstanding contributions through distinguished services in the field of information management. Dr. Little joins a distinguished list of previous recipients that includes Rear Admiral Grace Hopper, H. Ross Perot, Max D. Hopper, Dr. Paul M. Joyce Currie Little is Professor Emerita, Computer & Information Sciences, at Towson University, Baltimore, Maryland, where she was the founding department chair in 1984. She teaches their software engineering course for computer science majors, and is the course coordinator and major instructor of the courses in societal impact and ethical use of computers and computing that meet the criteria for ABET accreditation. She was the 2002 Principal Investigator for the CoSMiC Scholars Program, a National Science Foundation $500,000 scholarship program for needy meritorious students in the computational sciences, which was continued for a total of ten years.

Joyce graduated from high school in Pioneer, Louisiana in 1952 and received the B.S. degree in Mathematics Education from Northeast Louisiana State University (now University of Louisiana at Monroe). She completed the M.S. degree in Applied Mathematics at San Diego State University, during several years of employment as a Testing Engineer in the Low Speed Wind Tunnel at Convair Aircraft Corporation in San Diego. She completed a PhD program in Higher Education Administration (for academic computing centers) at the University of Maryland College Park. She was employed at Goucher College as Assistant Manager, Computer Center for several years, and later taught and managed computing facilities for education at the Community College of Baltimore (CCB), now the Baltimore City Community College. She headed several efforts in curriculum development for the Associate Degree level with the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and with the Association for Information Technology Professionals (AITP).

Joyce is a professional member of the ACM, the AITP, the IEEE-Computer Society, the Association for Women in Computing (AWC), and the American Association for University Professors (AAUP). She currently serves as an Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) representative to the Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals (ICCP). She was an active member of three different professional committees that created or revised the organization's ethics code: the DPMA's Ethics Code and Standards for Good Practice, the ACM Committee to Revise the Code of Ethics, and the IEEE-CS Task Force to create the Code of Ethics for Software Engineers.

Joyce is active in the Hunting Ridge Presbyterian Church, Baltimore, MD, where she has served as Elder for many years. She is an active member of the Advisory Board of the Joanna Nicolay Melanoma Research Foundation, having lost her son to melanoma in 2005, when he was 32. She has survived her husband John Little, who died in 2001.

Professional Dues

The undiscounted AITP professional dues are $105 per year for the Association dues, plus applicable Chapter dues.  See the Professional Chapter Dues Guide, http://www.aitp.org/?page=ChapDuesGuide for details. 

In addition, members can be a part of the Special Interest Group for Education (EDSIG),  http://www.aitp.org/members/group.asp?id=74879 for an additional $40 per year.

Multi-Year Professional Membership

Enjoy all the benefits of Professional membership with AITP. We have discounted the Association professional membership dues available under our multi-year membership initiative:

• 2 years: $178 - savings of $32
• 3 years: $252 - savings of $63
• 5 years: $367 - savings of $158

When renewing your membership online, there will be an option for multi-year renewals. The discount is for the Association portion of dues. Chapter dues (if applicable) are not discounted and must be paid.

Unemployed Professional Membership Initiative

The very popular unemployed membership program has been extended through 12/31/2013. This initiative provides an opportunity for unemployed IT professionals to experience the educational and networking opportunities provided by our local AITP chapters. It covers the situations of:

• Unemployment (laid off, contract ended, company closure)
• Medical leave (health or disability prevents gainful employment)
• Family leave (left the workforce to care for family members full time)
• Education leave (enrolled full time in a formal education program)

The discount of $35 reduces Association dues to $70. Chapter dues (if applicable) are not discounted and must be paid.

To be eligible for this discount an individuals must:

1. Have been previously employed full-time as an IT professional. Recent graduates seeking their first full-time IT position are not eligible, however the Student to Professional (S2P) program is an even better deal for them.
   
2. Be currently unemployed in the IT field. Those working part-time in IT or involved as a consultant are not eligible. Other unrelated work (for example: the Wal-Mart greeter) would not disqualify.
   
3. It is not a requirement that the person be collecting unemployment benefits or severance pay, and neither would disqualify the person.
   
4. It is not a requirement that the person be actively seeking work.
   
5. A person who joined/renewed in prior years using the discount is eligible to renew again this year – if they are still unemployed.

Enterprise Membership Program

This program is designed for organizations who have, or desire to have, 3 or more of their IT staff, nationwide, belong to AITP. It offers significant discounts on a sliding scale (3 to 9, 10 or more) to organizations that are willing to offer AITP memberships to their IT employees in order to enhance their technical and management skills at a very affordable price.

Student to Professional Membership

A new Student to Professional Member Dues Discount is available to former AITP Student Members. Under this discount, Association dues which are normally $105 per year are reduced by $50 (to $55) for the first year of professional membership. This discount can be used anytime during the first three years following graduation or the expiration of student membership – whichever is later.

Chapter and Region dues must also be paid and are not discounted.

This discount replaces the former Student to Professional (S2P) program. Current S2P members will be allowed to complete their three years of transitional discounts, but the S2P program will be closed February 1st to new entrants.

Student Member Dues Reduced!!

Student member dues have been reduced to $30/year from $35. Students enrolled in an IT related major at a university or college who are looking for careers within the IT field will find joining an AITP Student Chapter a step in the right direction. Besides the sharing of ideas with other IT students and faculty members on campus, they will be able to hear speakers on current technical and management topics at their own Student Chapter meetings as well as participate in their sponsoring Professional Chapter meeting.

It is never too early to start networking within our industry, hearing the views of IT expert guest speakers, working on relevant projects and attending our National Collegiate Conference; where they get to test their skills and knowledge against the "best of the best" in terms of other IT students from across the country, AND participate in the Job Fair - to say nothing of the networking with fellow IT students from colleges and universities from all over the US. It also provides the opportunity to apply for various scholarships that are ONLY available to AITP Student Members..

Faculty Advisor Membership Initiative

This initiative provides a $35 reduction in dues off our regular association professional dues, bringing it to $70/year plus applicable chapter dues.

To be eligible for this discount an individuals must:

1. Be employed as a full-time faculty member at an educational institution where a student chapter has been chartered and agree to serve as the Faculty Advisor to the Student Chapter for the year.
   
2. Provide documentation from their academic supervisor (principal, department chair, dean, etc.) that they are currently employed and in good standing with the organization.
   
3. Provide documentation from the sponsoring professional chapter president that they have agreed to serve as Faculty Advisor to a student chapter.
   
4. Join the student chapter's sponsoring professional chapter.
   
5. Pay the applicable association and chapter dues.

This discount is limited to one advisor per student chapter.

Emeritus Membership may be granted to those who qualify as Senior Members where their service to the Association warrants continued membership without cost to the individual. Only persons having acquired the Diamond Individual Performance Award shall be considered for this status.

Annual dues are one‑third of the current year's Association dues, as applicable for Regular membership (each rounded to the nearest dollar), payable by the chapter. If for any reason the chapter is disbanded, the Association will waive both the Association and the Individual Member "chapter" dues (if applicable) and continue the membership of the individual.

Chapters applying for Emeritus membership for an individual must provide all supporting materials to their Region president at least 30 days prior to the next Executive Committee meeting. The Region president will request approval from the Executive Committee.  The Executive Committee will then take the request to the Association Board of Directors.

Honorary Lifetime Membership

Lifetime Membership may be granted to those persons of prestigious stature who are nominated by the Association President and approved by the Executive Committee and Association Board of Directors, including, but not limited to:

• Recipients of the Distinguished Information Sciences Award (formerly Computer Science Man of the Year Award).
• Former Association Presidents.
• Recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Persons designated as Lifetime members shall receive all benefits and privileges of Regular membership at no cost to the individual. All levels of dues are waived. No dues invoice is mailed.

The National AITP Board gave this committee their support and encouragement in researching ways to restore AITP's leadership in the technology industry as well as elevate chapter confidence in our national association. We want to not only enhance our image in the IT professional community, but also to help all chapters grow their local membership by increasing national exposure and brand awareness.

After a year-long process of creating a Request for Proposal and going through the steps to select the right marketing partner, Phase I of our Marketing Plan commenced with our partner, AssociaDirect of Chicago, Illinois in September 2012. We ran focus groups at the AITP 2012 Annual Meeting in Green Bay, Wisconsin and came out with a comprehensive professional membership survey. We learned much about AITP and what our members like and don't like about our Association. We will be implementing the recommendations in the Final Report during Phase II – which is the actual process of membership recruitment and making needed changes to our national association.

We will be starting this process by reaching out to our national members who have expired AITP memberships to persuade them to "Come back to AITP”, resulting in increased membership on a national basis. Some of the other recommendations that we will be implementing include a social media campaign to develop content and robustness to our AITP social media sites such as LinkedIn, Twitter etc.

We will make AITP professional membership more appealing to our student members as they get involved with their careers. Individual Performance Award (IPA)

This award recognizes individual professional members for the contributions they have made to AITP at the chapter, region and association level, as well as their contributions to the IT community. Members earn points for various activities. Awards are earned at specific point levels. Details are in the Individual Performance Award Manual on the Professional Awards page. IPA point tracking is done via the Individual Performance Award Spreadsheet which can be downloaded from the Professional Awards page. The spreadsheet is the same as last year's.

IPA Award submissions should be made 6-8 weeks ahead of the meeting that the chapter intends to present the award. This gives the association time to review the award submissions, order the award, and have it shipped to the chapter. Award submissions are made via the Individual Performance Award Order Form and emailed to awards@aitp.org.

Outstanding Chapter Awards (COPA, ROCA, AOCA)

Outstanding Professional Chapters are recognized through the Chapter Outstanding Performance Award (COPA). Chapters complete the Chapter Outstanding Performance Award Spreadsheet, found on the Professional Awards Page, to detail their activities in the areas of: Association, Giving Forward, Local Community, Business Community, and Chapter. The COPA spreadsheet will be updated this year and posted on the Professional Awards page by Feb. 1, 2013. The spreadsheet is to be emailed to awards@aitp.org.

The award deadlines are:

• Chapters must submit the COPA spreadsheet by April 15, 2013.
• Regions will be given the list of COPA recipients by May 31, 2013.
• Regions must submit their Region Outstanding Performance Award (ROCA) winner from the COPA recipients by June 30, 2013.
• AITP will select the Association Outstanding Performance Awards (AOCA) winner from the ROCA recipients by July 31, 2013.

Professional Chapter Incentive (PCI)

Professional Chapters can earn funding if they have completed various activities. Details are in the PCI Funding Request Instructions and PCI Funding Request Spreadsheet on the Professional Awards page. The form has been updated this year. The maximum payment has been temporarily reduced to $200.

Chapters must submit the PCI Funding Request Spreadsheet to awards@aitp.org between January 31, 2013 and May 31, 2013.

AITP will be soon post reports that will help chapters complete the PCI Funding Request.

Professional Chapter Affirmation Form

The Professional Chapter Affirmati0n form at http://www.aitp.org/?ChapterAffirm should be completed by the a chapter officer of each professional chapter in order for the chapter to receive a $5 per member dues rebate from the Association. This must be done annually. The Chapter Affirmation form asks for you to ensure that AITP has the current leaders identified. That will help us ensure that AITP communicates to the correct people concerning your chapter. It also asks for you to affirm that the chapter is still active and holding regular meetings for its members.

The form is due in January each year.  If submitted after January, Chapter rebates will commence starting the month of the submission of the form but will not be retroactive to the first of the year.

This form can be found by logging into AITP, hovering over AITP Leaders Only in the left navigation rail, hoveringover Reports, Manuals and Forms and then clicking on Chapter Reports.  The form to submit chapter leaders can also be found at that page.  A direct link is:  http://www.aitp.org/resource/resmgr/chapter_documents/aitp_chapter_officers_(word).doc.

Distinguished Information Sciences Award (DISA)

The DISA recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions through distinguished services to the field of information management. Details, past recipients, and the submission form can be found in the Distinguished Information Sciences Award manual on the Professional Awards page. The nomination form is to be emailed to vicepresident@aitp.org (with a copy to awards@aitp.org).

The DISA nomination submission deadline is November 30, 2013.

The Professional Awards Committee is under the Association Chapter and Region Support Service Area. The 2013 Co-Chairs of this Service Area are Barbara Viola and Vicki Hampton. The 2013 Professional Awards Chair is Mike Hall. Questions can be sent to awards@aitp.org.

Chapter and Region dues must also be paid and are not discounted.

This discount replaces the former Student to Professional (S2P) program. Current S2P members will be allowed to complete their three years of transitional discounts, but the S2P program will be closed February 1st to new entrants.

Thank you for appointing me as Eastern District Director. I am pleased to express my excitement in joining AITP at the National Level. I look forward to serving with you and in effectuating positive change within the IT community.

For those of you I do not know, I am the CIO for IAC, a leading media and internet company headquartered in the iconic IAC Building in NY. Our collection of businesses represents the 7^th largest network in the world with over 1.2 billion monthly visits and over 150 brands. I've been with IAC for just over 8 years. Working within such a diverse organization has given me insight into many facets of technology, ranging from data centers to helpdesks. My responsibilities include the oversight of Corporate Information Technology, leading the capital budgeting process, Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning, and operating a shared service upon which many of IAC's businesses rely. Each day is a different and unique challenge.

Prior to working at IAC, I worked for KOCH Entertainment Distribution, a privately-owned music and video distribution company. Before that, I worked 8 years as Vice President of Technology for Lifetime Television, one of the country's most successful cable tv channels, and I began my IT career with the investment firm of Smith Barney.

I have been actively involved with the Long Island Chapter of AITP for as long as I can remember, and as anyone who knows me will attest, I enjoy sharing my experiences and giving back. I feel I have much to offer AITP and I am anxious to pitch in and help advance the Information Technology profession. I sincerely look forward to meeting and collaborating with each of you.

There are three priority items for chapter leaders to address this month: officer updates, conflict of interest, and chapter affirmation. All three of these items may be reached by selecting Members Only from the left navigation bar, then AITP Reports, and finally Chapter Reports. First, the Chapter Officer Lists form may be found at http://www.aitp.org/resource/resmgr/chapter_documents/aitp_chapter_officers_(word).doc. All professional and student chapters, and regions, should complete this form and email it to aitp_hq@aitp.org. This will help ensure that the correct people in your chapters and regions get emails from AITP that are directed to chapter/region leaders.

Next, all AITP leaders are requested to complete the online Conflict of Interest form at http://www.aitp.org/?page=Conflict_of_Interest

Finally, professional chapters wishing to receive the $5 per new member and member renewal rebate should complete the Chapter Affirmation Form http://www.aitp.org/?ChapterAffirm by January 25^th, 2013. The $5 chapter incentive will be added to chapter rebates beginning with the month the form is submitted, so get it submitted this month to start receiving it for January memberships.

It was a pleasure to continue the work of my predecessor, Jim Henry, and achieve his goal of getting Association leadership to work in a unified fashion – Officers, Association Directors, non-voting members of the Association Board of Directors (ABoD), and Region Presidents. As Jim wrote in his 2011 Association President's Report, "unification does not mean everyone agreeing with all items placed before the Board, but it does mean that all parties have the same general direction for the Association.” I believe that we have an agreed-upon direction for the next three years. 2013 Association President Bill Fly and 2013 Executive Vice President/President-Elect Mike Welch have been key contributors to achieving this goal, and I hand over the reins of the Association to them with a great deal of confidence in their stewardship.

Encouraging volunteerism, building AITP community spirit and pride, grooming leadership candidates, and striving for continuous improvement at all levels of the Association were my personal goals for my Presidency. As I look back over this past year, we have done well in three of these areas. Grooming leadership candidates still needs work, and I will continue addressing this as Immediate Past President.

Two other goals that I set coming into office were to insure well-planned membership growth and retention and to secure AITP's financial future through sound fiscal management and implementing new recurring sources of non-dues revenue. As I discussed last time (http://www.aitp.org/news/111053/From-the-Association-Presidents-Desk.htm), we are well on our way to achieving well-planned membership growth and retention with our 2013 Membership Program. On the financial front, it looks like 2012 will end on a positive note, and ABoD passed a balance budget for 2013 at its December meeting. Raising non-dues revenue continues to be a challenge … a challenge that I will help to address in 2013.

Finally, we have come to the end of our two-year 60th Anniversary celebration. We have focused on our history, where we are today as an Association, and what we need to do as we move forward towards our Diamond Jubilee in 2016. Continue to use the 60th Anniversary logo with pride. Many of our Chapters will be celebrating their 60th anniversaries in 2013 and 2014. Congratulations in advance!

My hope continues to be that AITP lives its Vision as the leading worldwide society of IT business professionals and the community of knowledge for the current and next generation of business technology leaders.
