To provide educational programs and services for information technology professionals, educators, the computer industry, business, government, or the general public.

The Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Regents who lend their time, talent and energy to support projects, programs, and initiatives like ISECON/CONISAR, the AITP National Collegiate Conference, scholarship reviews and selections, and scholarship fund management.

The Foundation sponsors the highly successful Information Systems Education Conference (ISECON) for the professional educator, as well as the corporate professional. ISECON is a premier educational event, annually bringing together educators, professional trainers and textbook publishers in concert with the Conference on Information Systems Applied Research (CONISAR). The Education Special Interest Group (EDSIG) of the Association of Information Technology Professionals provides important management support for this distinguished event.

FITE also actively supports events aimed at college and university students enrolled in IT-related degree programs. For example, the Foundation has been an annual sponsor of the AITP National Collegiate Conference (NCC) since 1996.

FITE sponsors a grants and awards program for colleges and universities as well as individuals and organizations, to provide funds for projects that further education in the areas of information processing.

The Foundation also has an IT scholarship program. In some cases the Foundation, through its investment firm, manages the funds for scholarships established and conducted by local AITP chapters. In other cases the Foundation not only manages the funds, but also manages the screening/selection process. Annually, the Selection Committee screens hundreds of applications to identify the worthy recipients of these scholarships.

FITE also sponsors the DPMA Legacy Society that recognizes friends of the Foundation who have either funded or planned a deferred gift, such as a bequest or a life income plan. It is named in honor of the Data Processing Management Association (DPMA) which rose to prominence during the pioneering days of the information technology profession and provided many of us with valuable professional growth opportunities, outstanding professional fellowship, and lifelong friendships.

Grants are welcome from all organizations to expand these programs. Gifts and grants to the Foundation are exempt from federal income tax, under section 501(c)(3), Internal Revenue Code.

She was always a very strong advocate for AITP and the opportunities it provides to members. I would not be able to afford such an amazing educational experience without the money provided by FITE.

Thank you for presenting me with such an opportunity. I would also like to thank AITP for advertising the scholarship to its members. I am truly appreciative of the honor and will continue to strive towards excellence and demonstrate leadership in the same manner that has qualified me for this award.” Alex Leonhard
"I'm pleased to accept the Betty Stevens-Frecknall Scholarship.
The Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Regents who lend their time, talent and energy to support projects, programs, and initiatives like ISECON/CONISAR, the AITP National Collegiate Conference, scholarship reviews and selections, and the scholarship fund management.

Grants are welcome from all organizations to expand these programs. Gifts and grants to the Foundation are exempt from federal income tax, under section 501(c)(3), Internal Revenue Code. This exemption also applies to contributions made by AITP chapters, regions, officers, individual members or non-members.

The gifts and grants exemption from Federal Income Tax also applies to contributions made by AITP chapters, regions, officers, individual members or non-members.
In Memoriam: Carol Lee Logan

Carol Lee Logan passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 24th, 2012. Born in Janesville, Wisconsin on April 9, 1940 to Harold and Sigrid Utterberg Hippe, she joined big brother Edward Carl, and was later joined by little brother Richard Allen and little sis Debra Ann. In 1958, while working at her father's service station in Monona Grove, Wisconsin, she was spied on top of a ladder (in a dress, of course), by one of her father's employees—David George Logan. Ever the gentleman, David began courting Carol Lee, and in 1960, they became husband and wife. Carol Lee quit school to devote her energies to being a wife and, in 1963, a mother; to Stephen Harold and in 1966, to Jennifer Ann.

Following her husband's career as an art academician, the family moved from Madison to East Lansing, Michigan in 1968, where she began working as an office manager for a local physician, in addition to being a full-time wife and mom. In 1979, the family moved to Johnson City, Tennessee, when David joined the staff of East Tennessee State University. In 1980, Carol Lee decided to complete her education, and in 1982, she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science. She immediately went to work for the College of Family Medicine, and became involved in several technology/education-based organizations. She served as President of the Tri-Cities Chapter and Association Director of AITP (formerly DPMA), and for six years, she served as regent for FITE (Foundation for Information Technology Education).

In 1997, Carol Lee transferred to the School of Nursing, where she worked to enhance rural medicine through technology. Upon her retirement in 2004, Carol Lee and David purchased a farm house in Unicoi County as a restoration project, and they also became CASA volunteers. Carol Lee and David were also very involved in the Unicoi County Democratic Party, as well as with ETSURA (ETSU Retiree's Association). Following David's death in 2009, Carol Lee continued on with these endeavors, as well as with the study of genealogy, which led her to join both the DAR and the Colonial Dames, in which she was an active member. In addition to her husband, Carol Lee was preceded in death by both her parents and her eldest brother, Edward.
A memorial service will be held at the Logan residence on February 11th at 2 pm. Carpooling is highly recommended, as parking is limited. Please visit http://carolleelogan.blogspot.com/ for directions, and to leave condolences, if you like. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CASA of Northeast Tennessee, WETS, or to the ETSURA Scholarship Endowment, c/o ETSU, Office of Human Resources.

The Foundation for Information Technology Education (FITE) is pleased to announce that the Betty Stevens-Frecknall Scholarship committee selected the recipients for 2011-2012 academic year.

Betty Stevens-Frecknall left a portion of her estate to the Foundation to set up a scholarship fund targeted at assisting deserving men and women pursuing an education in the field of information technology. Betty, a former President of the Washington D.C. Chapter in 1972, served several years as that Chapter's Association Director (now Chapter Liaison) and also was President of the Mid-Atlantic Region. She was always a very strong advocate for AITP and the opportunities it provides to members. She particularly wanted to be able to continue supporting and encouraging personal and professional growth and enable access to career advancement.

The endowment created a national scholarship that is awarded annually to support university students who are seeking an education in an accredited degree program related to information technology. Candidates are evaluated on demonstrated scholastic achievement, leadership, financial need and quality of the application. The selection process is administered by the Foundation Regents.

The following are the winners of the Betty Stevens-Frecknall Scholarship for the 2011-2012 academic year:

Kakia Brock: University of Phoenix, Phoenix, AZ
Monica Santa: Kaplan University, Fort Lauderdale, FL

Congratulations to Kakia and Monica for their achievements!

When they learned of their selection, Kakia and Monica told the Foundation:
" I would like to express my sincerest gratitude towards the committee for choosing me as one of the finalists for the Betty Stevens-Frecknall 2011-2012 Scholarship recipients. Thank you for your support! This award has shown me that "Yes You Can" if you try your best; you will be recognized for your achievements. After facing numerous obstacles with finances during the school semester, I was determined to stay focused and keep my eyes on the prize. Your award has given me encouragement and the drive to keep pushing forward to reach my dreams in spite of my difficulties. I will continue to inspire the youth and let them know that Technology is ever-changing and those of us who embrace it will be both innovators and leaders in our industry. Thank you for your generosity in funding me with the Betty Stevens-Frecknall Scholarship. I am very honored to be a recipient of such a prestigious award.”
Kakia Brock

" I am so honored and grateful to be one of the recipients of the national Betty Stevens-Frecknall Scholarship for 2011-2012. Being a mother of five trying to finish the degree I started over 15 years ago has not been easy. But I felt is was so important to go back not only for myself but to show my children 1.) the importance of getting an education, and 2.) that no matter what obstacles may come, if you work hard and believe in yourself you can accomplish anything.
The Foundation for IT Education is a not-for-profit independent organization representing practitioners, educators and researchers. FITE's mission is the development of individuals in the Information Technology Industry. It seeks to provide leadership in identifying educational opportunities that will advance the information systems profession. FITE was established in 1975 through a generous donations of then DPMA members and was matched by an IT education pioneer who has since passed on….Paul Pair. Gifts and grants to the Foundation are exempt from Federal Income Tax, under section 501 (c) 3, Internal Revenue Code.

The Foundation's objectives are:

To provide educational programs and services for information technology professionals, educators, the computer industry, business, government, or the general public.

To determine the needs and desires of information technology professionals with regard to professional education and development.

To develop and implement educational courses and information technology programs that will meet the needs and desires of information technology professionals.

To encourage the information technology profession in the development and adoption of technical and managerial information technology standards and preferred practices.

To develop and implement educational programs for information technology personnel self-evaluation.

To develop and implement educational programs for the evaluation of hardware, software and managerial systems.

To assist educational institutions in the development of effective business information technology curricula.

FITE sponsors the highly successful Information Systems Education Conference (ISECON) and Conference on Information Systems Applied Research (CONISAR) and works very closely with AITP's Special Interest Group for Education (EDSIG) to make this event successful. The Foundation has been an annual sponsor of the AITP National Collegiate Conference (NCC) since 1996.

FITE sponsors a grants and awards program for colleges and universities as well as individuals and organizations, to provide funds for projects that further educate in the areas of information processing. The Foundation also has a IT scholarship program. In some cases the Foundation, through its investment firm, manages the funds for scholarships established and conducted by local AITP chapters. In other cases the Foundation not only managers the funds, but also manages the screening/selection process. Annually, the Selection Committee screens hundreds of applications to identify the worthy recipients of these scholarships.

The Foundation also sponsors the DPMA Legacy Society that recognizes friends of the Foundation who have either funded or planned a deferred gift, such as a bequest or a life income plan. It is named in honor of the Data Processing Management Association (DPMA) which rose to prominence during the pioneering days of the information technology profession and provided many of us with valuable professional growth opportunities, outstanding professional fellowship, and lifelong friendships. One of its newest projects is to help bring DPMA, and AITP members together, similar to the past "DPMA Reunions”. This event is now called the DPMA Legacy Society Jamboree, which is currently being planned for early 2012. More information will be announced shortly as arrangements are finalized.

The Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Regents who lend their time, talent and energy to support projects, programs, and initiatives like the ISECON/CONISAR, AITP National Collegiate Conference, Scholarship reviews & selections, and the scholarship fund management.

Grants are welcome from all organizations to expand the Foundation's programs. The gifts and grants exemption from Federal Income Tax also applies to contributions made by AITP chapters, regions, officers, individual members or non-members. Chapter and individual contributions are often placed in the Foundation's endowment fund to insure continuity of the Foundation and to provide maximum leverage for the contribution. Your help is solicited so that the Foundation's much needed and long overdue efforts in information management education can be continued and expanded.

Send your contribution to the Foundation for Information Technology Education at the address listed below or visit the Foundation's website at www.edfoundation.org to find out more about making a donation.

Even more so, one year, I helped her get tickets for the Holiday River Parade the day after Thanksgiving when we turn the holiday lights on the beautiful San Antonio Riverwalk and literally have a parade on floats that really float on the river. It was the Reaugh family that enjoyed that parade that year together!
