We are IT! We love technology!

We get excited about solving problems, learning new skills, meeting new challenges, and helping create a better world, in our organizations and in the global community!

So, what's down the road for us? How can we contribute even greater value and deliver more meaningful business results to our many stakeholders?
How can we increase our credibility in a globally competitive world?

Since mid-2009, a group of AITP leaders and contributing members from the academic and public sector areas, have been sharing ideas about just this concern; the future of the IT profession and AITP's critical role in shaping it.

This AITP group is called the APA Council (AITP Profession Advisory Council).

Chartered by the national AITP board, a key purpose of the APA Council is to define a path that ensures we all have the opportunity to take our careers to a new professional level. This effort is called the Business Professionalism Initiative.

In the near future, we will all have the opportunity to learn more about the details of the Business Professionalism Initiative. Briefly, the goal of this initiative is to create the following:

A unique Body of Knowledge (BOK) that AITP can call its own, providing levels of professional certification for existing and new members.

Standards of entry into the IT field to ensure high credibility with business and the public.

A sanctioning organization (AITP) that will provide the appropriate certifications to those who have earned them.

A career roadmap providing opportunities to combine technology and business acumen, creating a well-rounded professional.

A greater emphasis on the Code of Ethics; a code of conduct common to all professional organizations.

A greater emphasis on promoting and serving the IT business profession.

The APA Council and your chapter leadership will be sharing the details of the Business Professionalism Initiative with you in the near future.

Together, we can become the world's premier IT Professional organization, a global role model for professional career growth and business conduct in which we can all take great pride.
