The Sun Always Shines on Sheboygan
    By: Larry Schmitz, CCP,CMC

The Sheboygan Chapter of AITP hosted its 37th consecutive golf outing at the Town and Country Golf Club on August 19. What is so unusual about that? Thirty seven years without a miss? Great accomplishment, but it is not the answer.

The correct answer is: For 37 straight years, it has NEVER rained on the 3rd Wednesday of August (their traditional day for their golf outing). And for those who have a misconception about the "frozen tundra" of Wisconsin, no, we have never played in the snow either. What an incredible string of good luck, eh?

This year's event was again a huge success, both in terms of attendance, fun, prizes for everyone, great food, great camaraderie, great sponsor support, and for the money it raises for the Jim Van Der Puy Scholarship fund. The scholarship fund is named for a long time Sheboygan chapter member who, unfortunately, passed away at a young age. The scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving Information Technology student from Lakeshore Technical College.

Below are some pictures of the day's event:

Cliff Van Ess (left) is a charter member of the Sheboygan chapter and started the Golf Outing 37 years ago. At age 86, he JUST retired, but still is doing consulting and contract programming for his old employer. He also plays a great game of golf, shooting in the 40's for 9 holes. Also shown is Chris Roberts (right) the Sheboygan Chapter President and Mike Huber, Excel Net (center).

Lou Buell is the chairperson of this annual event and has run the golf outing for many years. He also acts as Master of Ceremonies for the event and makes sure everybody has a great time. On the occasion of this year's outing, Dick Boenisch, Region 5 Director from the Sheboygan chapter, presented Lou with an award for 30 years of service to the Sheboygan chapter. Congrats Lou!!

Here is the "perfect form" of Tony LaCrosse, former Region 5 President and member of the Southeastern Wisconsin chapter, on the Par 3 fifth hole. And no, he didn't put it on the green (grin). But you have to admit, he looked good trying.

So if you want to have some fun, meet some fellow AITP'ers and not have to worry about the weather, come to Sheboygan next year on the third Wednesday of August. Sunshine GUARANTEED!!!
