Message from the Region 2 President 2008:

2008 President's Message

It's a new year and we are another year older and hopefully wiser. I want to thank Pete Schmitt and the Region 2 Board and all of the Chapter Liaisons for their dedication and hard work in 2007.

Great job!

We have many challenges in 2008. Membership, professional and student, is down and needs at the very least an oxygen tank or may require a defibrillator to get kick started. We can do our part by getting the word out about AITP and the benefits of membership and encouraging our student population to get involved. The ABOD Membership Committee has done a marvelous job at putting together some promotional materials and other tools to assist Chapters in retaining and attracting new members. I encourage you to make use of these tools and materials if you have not already done so.

We also have some fun stuff planned for 2008.

1.The National Collegiate Conference is in Memphis, Tennessee (March 27-29).

The ABOD will also meet at this time as well as the Region President's Council.

2.Region 2 Spring Conference will be held in Boise, ID - April 25-26.

The Boise Chapter is always a great host.

3.The Fall Region 2 Conference will be part of the 2nd Annual DPMA reunion to be held in Honolulu

- September 18-21. Contact Sam Luke (samluke@earthlink.net) for registration and details.

If this reunion is anything like the one held in San Jose last August, we will have a fantastic time.

4.ISECON will be held in Phoenix this year early in November. The ABOD will again be meeting at this time.

We need your participation in a number of activities this year as in previous years.

1.Participants are needed to assist in the Western District nominations committee. At least 2 people are needed from Region 2. I am this year's Western District chair, so if you are interested in being on the committee or running for one of the open offices, please contact me - Diana Shelton dianashelton@juno.com

2.All of the ABOD committees are right now getting together to work on 2008 tasks. If you are interested in being on a committee, please contact me - Diana Shelton dianashelton@juno.com

And finally, I would like to propose that the Region 2 leadership - Chapter Liaisons and the Region 2 BoD - have regular conference calls, possibly quarterly or more frequently depending on what the group wants.

During these calls we can accomplish many things:

* Share with other Chapters what is going on

* Provide advice on what worked and what did not work in areas of membership, meeting ideas, educational events, conferences, completing COPA applications, etc.

* Interact with Region BoD more frequently than twice a year

* Get to know each other better; some Chapter representatives aren't able to make it to Region 2 meetings

* Have discussions about issues that we want to present and/or vote on at an upcoming Region 2 meeting

I will be sending out another e-mail asking for your input on this idea.

Aloha! Let's make 2008 GREAT!

Diana Shelton
