AITP Elections

Association:

Your ballots for Association officers were counted on October 1. The officers for next year are:

We thank our own Gary Keller, CCP CDP (Racine-Kenosha) for running for Association Secretary/Treasurer. It was a very, very close election.

The Central District is the combination of Region 5 and Region 9. It covers the geographic area of: Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, the St. Louis metropolitan area, and part of Kentucky. Your ballots for District director were counted October 1. The two district directors from the Central District will be:

The Eastern District elected Craig Kennedy of the Richmond Chapter. The Western and Southern districts did not have directors up for election this year.

Awards

Congratulations to the Northeastern Wisconsin Chapter for winning the Association Outstanding Chapter of the Year award! Northeastern Wisconsin hosted the 2000 Association conference. For most of the year it was the largest chapter in the Association. It currently has 200 members. Last year's winner, the Twin City Chapter, is also in Region 5. Once again, this shows that we are the Pacesetter Region.

The Foundation for Information Technology Education announced the winners of the Betty Stevens-Frecknall Scholarship. Two recipients were from the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater.

The Foundation's mission centers on educational activities within the information technology profession, with a focus on research and development activities in partnership with AITP. The foundation sponsors or co-sponsors many conferences and seminars for both educators and students, including: ISECON - the Information Systems Education Conference and NCC - the National Collegiate Conference.

Betty Stevens-Frecknall was a member and leader in the AITP Washington DC chapter. She generously established the scholarship fund in her estate. This year four students were each awarded $2,000 towards their education. The winners were:

The Association awarded its Distinguished Information Sciences Award (DISA) to Major F. Riddick Jr., the Maryland governor's Chief of Technology. You can learn more about Major Riddick and the DISA at the AITP conference web site: http://2001conference.aitp.org/disa.htm

Association Conference

The Association annual conference in Baltimore was an outstanding success. The educational portion of the conference was first rate. Each year, the conference gets better and better. This year, the Lattanze Center @ Loyola College sponsored in-depth education programs, giving a whole new dimension to the educational offerings at the conference.

If you are looking for high quality educational opportunities on a wide range of Information Technology topics, at a very affordable rate, please consider the AITP Annual Conference. Next year's conference will be in San Antonio, Texas Oct 31 - Nov 2, 2002.

I had the opportunity to participate in the Association Board of Directors meeting and the Region President's Council meeting during the conference. There's lots of activity going on. I'll be telling you more about that activity in the coming months.

We learned that Managing Director Linda Clark had to resign to take care of her ill mother in another city. Ann Cannata of AITP headquarters is now leading the AITP staff.

Region 5 Annual Meeting

The Region 5 annual meeting was held in Rockford, IL on October 5. We are the largest Region in the Association in terms of professional members. The three largest chapters in the Association are in Region 5 -- Northeastern Wisconsin (204), Windy City (200), and Twin City (126). Again, lots of activity within the Region.   You'll hear more in the coming months.

Many thanks to Milwaukee's Ellen Mahoney for organizing the region meeting.

Milwaukee Chapter's 50th Anniversary

The Milwaukee Chapter celebrated its 50th anniversary at the end of September. The celebration was an outstanding success and great experience. I thank the Milwaukee Chapter for inviting me to the anniversary dinner.

If you get a chance to visit anyone from the Milwaukee chapter, ask to see their 50th anniversary booklet. It is a fascinating retrospective of the chapter and the association. I know it took a lot of work to put it together. It is a great job by Tony LaCrosse and his chapter committee.

Visit the Region 5 Website

Many thanks to Perry Fritz (Northeastern Wisconsin) for updating the Region 5 website ( http://www.aitp.org/region5/ ). Please check out the website for information and links to the professional and student chapters within the Region. Also included are Region documents (like Bylaws) and links to important Association sites. Perry's done a great job in making the website useful for all of us. Even more enchantments and information will be coming.

Chapter leaders should check out the site periodically to ensure that the links to their professional and student chapters are still correct. Also be sure to check out the name, address, etc. of the chapter President and Liaison. Please send changes to me ( mark.gilfand.ah3y@statefarm.com ) and to Perry Fritz ( fritzp@schencksolutions.com ).

Send new Chapter Officer lists to the Region and Association

This is the time of year for chapters to elect new officers. This includes the student chapters. Please be sure to send in your new officer lists. The forms are part of the Professional and Student Chapter Operations Manuals, available for download at the Association Web site ( http://www.aitp.org ).

Submit your chapter news for the Region newsletter

One of the purposes of the Region is to share information among the chapters. Send me information about chapter events and activities that you'd like other chapters to know about. Information received by the 16th of the month will be put in the next newsletter, which will be completed by the 29th. You can email me at: mark.gilfand.ah3y@statefarm.com

Visit the AITP Website

If you haven't visited the AITP web site for a while, please do so at www.aitp.org. Each month, more and more information is available. After seeing what's on the home page, go to the site map. There you will find links to all sorts of AITP information. Committee chairs may want to check out the Manuals section.
