- Review of Year 2008
- Mark Kleine
- 2008 Association President
|
|
4
|
- As we approached our 2008-2010 strategic planning, we recognized that we
are experiencing a membership that has become flat and in need of
rejuvenation.
- The Strategic Planning process included a re-definition of what we
provide as member value and an attempt to determine ways we can develop
greater return on AITP investment.
|
|
5
|
- To properly identify the critical areas for growth, the Executive
Committee drafted a series of questions designed to generate feedback
concerning AITP’s most important needs.
The questionnaire was sent to the entire Board of Directors.
- Based on this information, the EC drafted a straw model of hypotheses
that covered the topics most pressing to alter the direction of AITP.
- These hypotheses were discussed and revised in Pittsburgh, PA in
November 2007 at the board’s yearly planning session.
|
|
6
|
- Using information from an AITP demographic study and the AITP Board
questionnaire, we developed a new strategic planning process which
called for Board members and key volunteers to stay focused on the top
four key areas of growth for AITP.
- From these rankings, the board agreed to immediately act upon the four
most important issues facing AITP during 2008.
- This was not to say that we would not address other issues during 2008,
but rather we agreed to focus our collective resources on affecting
those that had a chance to make the most dramatic effect.
|
|
7
|
- Four Strategic Paths/Priorities for 2008:
- Placing a greater emphasis on the benefits we deliver to both
Non-Managerial IT professionals and Middle IT Managers – the strength
of our membership.
- Developing materials and services that directly impact the future
direction of our chapters through enhanced communication and new
leadership resources.
- Extended outreach to strategic alliances and partners that offer member
benefit and greater market awareness.
- Revamping our image and initiate a re-branding effort to expand the
AITP sphere of influence in the IT industry.
|
|
8
|
- Through the understanding of AITP’s resources, the hypotheses were then
ranked by importance to the Association.
- Looking forward, our strategic achievements in 2008 have set up the
opportunity for further growth by the end of the decade.

|
- Transforming into
- “Remarkable”
|
|
52
|
- Do we offer the best value for our members' investment or is another
association about to steal it away?
- Do we concentrate on understanding our membership needs and articulating
what benefits the association has that respond to enhance those member's
needs?
- Our association's survival depends on maintaining and increasing revenue
and volunteer levels.
- Yet, our members are in control of the situation by choosing who will
be the recipient of their time and dollar investments.
- Do we understand the changes in the industry?
- Do we understand the changes in the IT professional role?
- Do we know who we are? Who we are not?
- Do we know who we should be?

|
|
56
|
- The Leaders of the new IT profession!
- For over five decades, AITP has been setting the standard for lifelong
learning, collaboration and innovation to address the challenges
professionals in the Information Technology industry face every day.
- With more than 6,000 professionals and students relying on one exclusive
peer network that connects them to exchange ideas, pursue learning, and
share strategies to achieve both personal and professional growth and
success, it is imperative that AITP be the association of professionals
from the IT business industry.
|
|
57
|
- There is a pressing need in the IT profession for integrated leadership
of business and technology.
- The industry is demanding it
- Our competitors have recognized it
- AITP is positioned to lead it
- There is a pressing need to focus on the redefined IT professional role:
- Convergence of business knowledge with technology skills
- Leadership, management and soft skills
- There is a pressing need to focus on providing our current members the
tools they will need to plan their careers in this new IT industry and
for the future.
|
|
58
|
- AITP is about people, leadership, technology, business, and
professionalism.
- AITP is a community of individuals that aspires to reach their true potential, become
better leaders, better people.
- AITP must seize the window of opportunity to be the “leading worldwide
society of information technology business professionals and the
community of knowledge for the current and next generation of leaders.”
|
|
59
|
- Accepting the reality of a new AITP will be a hurdle for some. We will
need to prepare for cultural, process, and in some ways, behavioral
changes – the days of “this is how we have always done it” will be no
longer.
- Each of us must be committed to perform the work necessary to achieve
success.
- To use an old cliché, the only place where success comes before work is
in the dictionary.
- It will take forward thinking.
- It will most certainly take the creativity and intellect of each and
every member.
|
|
60
|
- We are committed – are you?
- To continuously gather and analyze data to make knowledge based
decisions
- To maintain a culture of continuous conversation, pushing and pulling
information throughout the entire organization;
- To foster effective communication, sharing the vision and taking
collaborative action!
- In summary, greatness lies within our members and association
- leaders - the two must intersect to make sure AITP meets the
- needs of our members and fulfills its purpose.
- We stand committed as your Association leaders to help
- transform AITP into a remarkable association "where the winners
- meet”.
