In March 2018, CompTIA AITP launched the Chapter Challenge, an opportunity for CompTIA AITP chapters to drive local membership recruitment with a little friendly competition. The challenge included prizes for the chapters that brought in the most members between March 1, 2018 and July 31, 2018, the first anniversary of CompTIA AITP’s launch.
The chapters stepped up in a big way, adding 188 net new members and contributing to CompTIA AITP surpassing its 2018 membership goal of 10,000 members. Read more about CompTIA AITP’s growth over the past year. Prizes for the winners included scholarship money, CompTIA AITP-hosted events, and branded marketing items.
Congratulations to the following chapters:
Largest Total Net New Member Increase: CompTIA AITP Dallas Fort Worth (DFW)
With 32 new members, CompTIA AITP DFW’s secret to recruiting and retaining members is maintaining an inclusive message to all IT pros in the area and offering robust programs. In addition, marketing the value of CompTIA AITP membership, including local benefits and national benefits, like on-demand business training and TechTalent, helped drive the Dallas Chapter’s success.
“We’ve worked hard to define CompTIA AITP DFW as an inclusive group, which is unique in our area. Most groups are specific to a certain type of IT pro—CIOs or women or CISOs, to name a few. We are focused on developing careers for IT pros where ever they are, whoever they are,” said Mike Rochelle, president of CompTIA AITP DFW.
Dallas has made sure it’s making good on its promise of inclusivity by offering something for everyone. “Programming is everything for us. We have our chapter program which goes 11 months of the year; we have our business technology networking group, which meets twice a month; and a senior leadership forum,” said Rochelle.
And there’s more to come in Dallas, according to Rochelle. “We’re very excited to have won the Chapter Challenge, and we look forward to continuing to grow and add value in Dallas for both our members and the IT community.”
Runner up: CompTIA AITP Chicago with 21 net new members
Largest Percentage Net New Member Increase: CompTIA AITP Charlotte Chapter
As a smaller chapter, CompTIA AITP Charlotte wasn’t sure of their chances to win the Chapter Challenge. But with a new and energized board as well as long-time member and current chapter president Larry Bumgardner, the chapter took it upon themselves to not only recruit new members, but also retain its members. Their efforts paid off with an 82.6% increase in their membership.
“As a board, we all looked at opportunities we might have to bring on members through our personal channels,” says Bumgardner.
The Charlotte Chapter also increased efforts to retain members, ensuring that lapsed members were personally contacted and provided updated information about new benefits and events in the area. Finally, CompTIA AITP Charlotte used its connection to local IT non-profit, Creating IT Futures, to promote the value of membership to graduates of that program.
According to Bruce Weil, the chapter’s programming chair, chapter members can look forward to an exciting year of new programs, as the board looks to bring in new members around hot tech topics, like blockchain. “I’m looking forward to finding those topics that will attract more attention. There are more things we can pull together to bring in chapter members and other people who want to attend and get exposure to education.”
