2018 in Review: A Year of Growth for CompTIA AITP

Blog Single

In July 2017, CompTIA and the Association for IT Professionals (AITP) joined forces to establish an organization that would provide IT pros with the resources and community they need to start and advance in their tech careers. Since then, we’ve seen membership grow from 2,500 IT pro, student and academic members to more than 13,000 members, including 9,500 students today. Now in our second year, the association is continuing its mission to serve these members with career-focused benefits, content, resources and events. And, with the help of our executive council, staff and membership, we’ve been thrilled to provide a variety of opportunities this year. Here are just a few we’re proud of:

TechTurnout Events

This fall, CompTIA AITP launched regional IT events in San Diego and Dallas. The more than 125 IT pros who attended TechTurnout events were treated to insightful sessions about emerging trends in ransomware, the process of migrating to the cloud, the evolution of network troubleshooting and more. IT pros also had the opportunity to earn CEUs toward CompTIA certifications, network with tech professionals in their region and test virtual reality simulators.

Emerging Tech Webinars

This year, CompTIA AITP hosted emerging tech webinars on topics ranging from cloud to cybersecurity, IoT to AI. The webinars featured IT pros who are leaders in their fields including Seth Robinson, senior director of technology analysis at CompTIA; James Stanger, chief technology evangelist at CompTIA; and Kenneth May, CEO at Swift Chip. Don’t miss our last tech webinar of the year on Friday, Supporting Network Segmentation in the Enterprise with Andrea Di Fabio, chief information security officer (CISO) and associate CIO at East Tennessee State University, on December 14. Tech Towns Research Report

In October, CompTIA AITP released its inaugural Tech Towns research report, which featured the 20 best places for IT pros to live and work, based on number of open IT positions, cost of living and projected job growth. The report aims to help IT students and early career professionals weigh the benefits of relocating to cities where demand for tech workers is greatest. Members: Access the report now.

BizLibrary Launches

CompTIA AITP launched an additional benefit this year designed to further the association’s mission of providing IT pros with career resources—access to thousands of on-demand business and soft skills training courses through BizLibrary. The new learning platform also gives members the opportunity to create customized playlists of courses, allowing IT pros and managers to respond to their personal or staff training needs.

Chapter Programming

CompTIA AITP’s chapters were busy this year creating industry programming, awards and events for local IT pros. Read more about highlighted events and awards programs. We are so proud of the hard work chapters are doing to engage the industry locally and provide IT pros with meaningful networking opportunities and learning experiences. What’s Next for CompTIA AITP

Heading into 2019, CompTIA AITP will continue to serve our members with benefits and resources designed to help them grow in their IT careers. We'll also be adding new benefits and content that will enrich the membership experience for students and early career IT pros.

Stay tuned for more exciting news as we launch new resources and continue to shape the future of our industry, and in the meantime, we wish all our members wonderful things to come in the new year.
