The New Year brings change and new beginnings for your Association.
We bid farewell to 2011 officers Beth Pirrie (Immediate Past President & Secretary) and Pete Schmitt (Treasurer), as well as Association Director Elaine Miller. Elaine will continue as our Website Administrator, supporting members at all levels in their use of our new aitp.org website.
Please welcome our new Executive Committee members for 2012: Bill Fly (Executive Vice President/President-Elect), Barbara Viola (Secretary), and Mike Welch (Treasurer). I look forward to working with them and 2012 Immediate Past President Jim Henry to deliver value for our members. Also, please welcome our new Association Directors: Robin Byler, Bobby Rockers, Al Strong, and Paul Ziems. Actually, Al and Paul have served previously on the Association Board of Directors (ABoD), and I am happy to have their experience and insights on the 2012 ABoD.
While I'm introducing your Association leadership team for 2012, I am pleased that Region 5 President and Past Association President Larry Schmitz is chairing the Region Presidents' Council in 2012. Another Past Association President, Nita Adams, is 2012 Foundation for IT Education (FITE) President. Both are trusted advisors who will serve as non-voting ABoD members this year.
Now that the holidays are behind us, it's time to focus on the job ahead of us. I want to share three of my priorities for 2012 with you:
- Create more value for our professional members and communicate it effectively to our members and potential members;
- Provide leadership training and support to our Chapter leaders so they can manage their Chapter effectively and deliver value to our members;
- Support our student members through our professional Chapters and facilitate the transition of student members to professional members.
You'll be hearing more about these priorities in the weeks and months ahead.
Two years ago, I wrote about four ways to help Chapters grow and prosper in Information Executive. You can read it at http://www.aitp.org/news/69412/Association-News-Four-Ways-to-Help-Your-Chapter-Grow-and-Prosper-.htm. Imagine what your Chapter could be by year end if every member of your Chapter did one of these things in this article starting in January! Will you accept this challenge as one of your New Year's resolutions?
Please accept my best wishes for a New Year full of health, happiness and success.
Norbert J. Kubilus
2012 Association President
