AITP 17th Annual National Collegiate Conference
Highlights and Winner Circle
The AITP National Collegiate Conference continues to be the single largest event produced by AITP annually and the 2012 event was no exception. The conference was held March 29-31, 2012 in San Antonio at the Crowne Plaza San Antonio Riverwalk Hotel and the total attendance was 775 which is the largest attendance since there was 820 attendees in Dallas for the 2006 event! The conference was chaired by Dr. David Wierschem from Texas State University which was also the hosting AITP student chapter and we enjoyed having volunteers from both the San Antonio and Austin AITP professional chapters.
Conference sponsors/exhibitors included returning Diamond Sponsor Robert Half Technology and new Diamond Sponsor USAA. Additional sponsors included State Farm, IBM, Certiport, Alamo AFCEA, the Foundation for Information Technology Education, the ICCP Education Foundation, Microsoft UGSS, and ITsymbiotics. Additional conference exhibitors included AITP, Accenture, ARGO, COMMON, Creighton University, ICCP and the 2012 Region 3 Student Conference.
Additional attendees included all the 2012 AITP association officers and board members as they were holding their board meeting in conjunction with the AITP NCC event which allowed them to mix-n-mingle with student chapter members, leaders and faculty advisor alike throughout the conference. The conference continues to deliver true value and opportunities to the AITP student & faculty and unique opportunities to hear leading IT organization speakers through keynotes and breakout sessions. The keynote panel moderated by Robert Half Technology got the event off to a huge success Friday Morning with tons of tips for obtaining that cool job in the field of IT and was followed by the USAA CIO keynote address given by Greg Schwartz, USAA CIO and showcased the integration of IT into successful customer facing applications.
Based on attendee feedback last year, we spread the awards and recognitions throughout all the general sessions/conference meals which created multiple opportunities for attendees and chapters alike to be recognized and not feel rushed. Post conference, everyone felt this was a super move and appreciated by all! For a photo recap of the conference – check out the closing awards banquet slide show produced by Andrew Taylor, Texas State AITP student chapter officer (link). Additionally, use of Twitter to keep the attendees informed along and prize giveaways along with a PC Troubleshooting qualifying exam real-time leader-board kept all contestants in the know!
Planning has already started for the 18th annual AITP National Collegiate Conference which will be back in St. Louis April 4-7, 2013 and ironically at the same hotel as was the 2010 event there which is conveniently located near the Cardinal baseball stadium, the Arch and the light rail train stop from the airport. Your conference co-hosting AITP student chapters, assisted by both the St. Louis and Capital AITP professional chapters include:
On behalf of the entire AITP NCC Committee & Volunteers, have a Great Summer and we hope to see you in St. Louis next year!
